New look of the Baltic International Summer School

Valmiera, June 7, 2007. – The Baltic International Summer School has decided to surprise all the participants with a new, stunning look – the event’s logo has been redesigned and the brand has been changed. Now everything coming from the summer school will be decorated with a new logo, saying out loud at you: “My absolutely best summer in the Baltics!”

The new logo will be used on all different kinds of collectables from the summer school – folders, information materials, web site, T-shirts, mugs, stickers and other items. “We wanted to give the old BISS a new look,” says Kaspars Ruklis, one of the directors of the summer school and also the author of the new slogan, “we needed something lighter, more positive, more suitable for the summer and more attractive! Summer is the season for fun after all! Modern brands tend to be slightly provoking and they often do not even mention the product’s old, boring name, but give it a new, exciting one. We did the same. Now we are proclaiming what our past participants have been saying for years—this summer school is indeed a great summer experience for students and they not only learn but also have a good time and make new friends between and after classes!”

The designer of the new look is Andris Jurga, a public relations student at Vidzeme University college and also a team member of the summer school: “As we will focus on the new media, I decided to use the old media for the logo. Everything new starts with something old. We have seen these cut-out letters in connection with summer in the past but I hope that this design will create positive associations. Cutting out letters on my dorm bed was not an easy task, I know that now!”

This year’s Baltic International Summer School will focus on the “Future of Public Communication in the Age of New Media” and take place in Valmiera, Latvia, on August 5-19. Information about the summer school, classes, lecturers, workshops and the application form can be found on the web site The application deadline is June 30. Come and make this “absolutely best summer in the Baltics” yours!
