Schedule of Classes and Workshops for 9th Baltic International Summer School Available On-Line

Valmiera, April 26, 2007. – Vidzeme University College has published the schedule of classes, workshops and social activities for the 9th Baltic International Summer School taking place on August 5-19 in Valmiera, Latvia. The web site also contains information about the lecturers and instructors for the summer school from Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom and the United States.

The topic of this year’s summer school is “The Future of Public Communication in the Age of New Media” and it will feature lectures on various subjects, like information overload in public relations, the role of image and meaning, the regional media on-line, global management and culture in the context of new communication opportunities, how public relations needs to prepare for new media, the grey borderland between journalism and advertising in Europe, interactive television issues and other subjects. Besides lectures about various aspects of changes to the process of communication in the era of on-line media, students will also have an opportunity to participate in practical hands-on workshops and produce a web site. After classes and workshops, a number of social activities are planned, for instance, trips to Sigulda, Cesis and Riga, sports evenings, Baltic film evening, folk dance evening, international food party and a visit to the sea.

Vidzeme University College would like to remind that it welcomes applications from students all over the world for this year’s Baltic International Summer School. Students are welcome to apply via summer school’s web site at Vidzeme University College looks forward to this event in August and encourages students interested in journalism, media, public relations, multimedia and other related disciplines, as well as interested and motivated students from other disciplines to apply. The application deadline is May 1 for students applying for a scholarship and June 1 for all other students. There are already several scholarships available for international students and we are still looking for more.

The Baltic International Summer School is a wonderful opportunity to spend two summer weeks in the Baltics and learn about the topic of the summer school as well as experience the joys of the Baltics and meet new friends from other countries.

Vidzeme University College, the home of Baltic International Summer School, was formed in 1996 to promote economic, political and social development by providing higher education to the people of Vidzeme region. Since 2001 the school has the status of state university college. At present there are 1325 students and 50 full time lecturers at Vidzeme University College. The university offers five professional study programmes: Communication and Public Relations, Political Science, Business administration, Information Technology and Tourism Organization and Management, as well as several master level programs.
